Labour Party mismanagement saw Wigan Council become the sixth
worst performing authority for sickness absence in staff out of the seven Greater
Manchester authorities.
The total cost in 2012/13 was £4.3 million attributable to
sick pay.
To combat this they have created an ‘attendance reward scheme’,
which rewarded staff who turn up for work all the time (100%) with recognition
letters, quarterly cash prize draws and additional leave.
So as Ukip understands it, if you turn up to do the job you
are paid to do, you receive a cash prize and additional leave. Doesn’t giving you extra annual leave for turning up to work sort of defeat the object of the
exercise?
Forecasts predicted that at the end of the current year 2013/2014, 10.9 days would be the average days lost, which equates to £3.8 million.
