Apparently UKIP in Wigan have saved Wigan A & E from closure

(We should inform bloggers we are being ironic in the title!)

Labour Party in Wigan approach;

Put the frighteners on local residents by having several headlines stories about A & E closure. Start a campaign with stories on websites and blogs including Wigan Labour MP Lisa Nandy's

Lisa said: “I am deeply concerned about the future of Wigan’s emergency services. Recently a number of hospitals, like Trafford, have lost their A&Es, while other high-performing A&E’s across the country have been threatened with closure.
“Patient care must be paramount. Downgrading the Royal Albert Edward would seriously impact on local people, leaving patients and their families travelling long distances at great cost.

The UKIP approach;

e-mail sent from UKIP in Wigan to NHS 'are there are any plans or proposals to close the A and E Unit at Royal Albert Edward Infirmary'

e-mail reply received from NHS Commissioners in Greater Manchester, 4th Floor, 3 Piccadilly Place, Manchester, M1 3BN;

'there are no plans or proposals to close the A and E Unit at Royal Albert Edward Infirmary in Wigan'

Problem solved, we are sure Ms Nandy will be pleased that she doesn't need to keep scaring people on an issue that does not exist and that she can inform the people of Wigan accordingly....

Remember Billinge Hospital Mr Burnham

BBC 'Hospital closure' powers plan dangerous - Labour
"Given the growing financial problems in the NHS, I would say that all hospitals in England won't be safe if this change goes through."

Billinge Hosiptal situation between Wigan and St Helens, founded 1873.

A nice modern out of town Hospital with free parking, great staff and a credit to the area.

Closed under the Labour regime of Tony Blair in 2004, demolished for houses under Gordon Brown in 2007

Who do you trust, Labour or the Tories with the NHS or are they as bad as each other?

Wigan council Gritter out in force on a warm day

We thought we were imagining things earlier when we saw the yellow flashing lights of a gritter go past. Probably a pick up truck? But no, on checking Wigan Council's twitter site they confirm the gritters are out tonight!

and to confirm it has just driven past again.!

Why oh why is the council gritting in warm weather when in previous years there's wasn't a gritter to be seen.

An excess of salt to be used up? More overtime to claim? UKIP wants answers on this complete waste of money.

Chief Executive of Wigan Council calls for local Councillors to be voted out

The Chief Executive of Wigan Council Donna Hall has launched an unprecedented attacked on local Councillors and called for electors not to vote for them in the forthcoming May local elections.

In a letter to the Wigan evening post on 7th March 2014 she criticises them heavily for misusing council resources saying ‘They waste a fortune of tax payers money on ridiculous issues, abusing the position of trust they have been placed in by voters.’ She goes on to describe their ‘obnoxious’, ‘childish behaviour’ and complains about their attitude towards staff  ‘to think they can misuse council resources, boss staff about and be obnoxious until they get their own way just because they were elected’

‘Wigan people deserve better’ she commented. Calling on the people of Wigan to throw them out of office, the Chief Executive said ‘the only way they can be removed from office is by voters recognising their behaviour is a problem and not voting for them’.

A spokesperson for UKIP in Wigan said ‘we usually expect impartiality from council staff when it comes to political matters. Many voters will be surprised that such a senior person on the council is telling them who to vote for’
‘Like a lot of people it looks like the Chief Executive has had enough of the current crop of councillors and wants change.’ ‘Every month Wigan town hall appears to be rocked by scandal. Whether its criminal investigations, dodgy expenses claims or parachuting a favoured relative into a job, they never seem to be out of the news.’
‘Ultimately the leader of Labour run Wigan Council, Lord Smith of Leigh, is to blame for this state of affairs, he has had years to get a grip of the situation but has failed to do so.’ ‘Donna Hall clearly thinks that local councillors need replacing, but she is now turning to voters not Lord Smith for leadership.’
‘We note Donna Hall’s recommendations to voters in May’s elections, but nevertheless it’s very disappointing to UKIP that council staff are now being forced to break with convention and enter into the political arena’

Wigan Councillors spend £17,000 on mobile phone calls

If you recently got a good deal on your mobile phone, it may be worthwhile passing the details onto Wigan Council.

Wigan Councillors racked up £17,413.97 in mobile phone charges in one 12 month period (2012/2013).

How can you spent £17k in phones charges you ask? One for Wigan Labour party to answer according to the press....

Borough finance chiefs claim Labour Councillor owes the council thousands in a “scandalous misuse of public money” since being elected.  Used the phone to make international calls, ring for taxis and phone pubs and hotels late at night.
