Wigan Council meeting ends in farce as Police called

Yet again the elected representatives of our area have embarrassed its citizens with a public display of bickering.

The Police had to be called again when the ruling Labour group tried to eject an independent Councillor from the full council meeting in Leigh this evening.

Former Wigan Labour Cllr Emma McGurrin who illegally claimed £1,700 expenses is jailed for 8 months

Never out of the news, it appears as if yet another Wigan Labour Party Councillor has been caught doing something they shouldn't....

What's interesting to note is that the BBC reports Ms McGurrin claimed senior council officials had known some of her claims were fraudulent.

HS2 Spur for Wigan, Warrington and Leigh to be scrapped?

Happy 2015.

Plans for the HS2 spur (going through Warrington and Wigan with a depot at Leigh) look like they are going to be scrapped, regardless of who wins the 2015 general election.

In a meeting in the House of Commons, Chief Executive of HS2, David Higgins, told MPs the spur, which would cost £1 billion alone, ‘no longer makes sense’ and he said it would now be reconsidered.
