Plans for the HS2 spur (going through Warrington and Wigan with a depot at Leigh) look like they are going to be scrapped, regardless of who wins the 2015 general election.
In a meeting in the House of Commons, Chief Executive of HS2, David Higgins, told MPs the spur, which would cost £1 billion alone, ‘no longer makes sense’ and he said it would now be reconsidered.
