Scandal hits Wigan Town hall yet again
Lord Peter Smith Leader of Labour run Wigan council just received an award believe it or not, this is what he leads....
Live in Bryn/Landgate/Ashton area? take the UKIP Wigan Poll on the new development
Stephen Jones our UKIP spokesperson in Bryn says the proposal to develop the land near Bryn/Landgate Ashton in Makerfield (near Wigan) appears to have taken off.
As usual full details have only been provided to a select few on Wigan Council (us not included). But he understands 450 houses have been designated for the area with a supermarket, industrial units and other buildings earmarked for the development.
UKIP is the only party that will base its policies on the views of the residents. Unlike the main political parties we believe in listening to the people. One of our key aims is to have referendums on key issues just like this one.
(Unlike the Labour party who railroad this kind of thing through and seem to have a fixation on building on every bit of green land we have, regardless of what local residents say)
As with any development there are advantages and disadvantages. The concern is of course the effect it will have on the immediate area in terms of losing the fields. The 'For' camp say more jobs may be created in the area as a plus point, but the 'Against' camp say more pressure will be put on our local amenities such as medical facilities, schools and the increase in traffic to name a few.
But as a resident (local residents only please) what do you think?
Stephen Jones our spokesperson in Bryn would like you to take our poll below and/or to the right of this blog make your views known, no names, e-mails, addresses etc required it's completely anonymous.

UKIP Wigan accuses Wigan Labour Councillors of wasting a £1,000 on Twitter training.
UKIP in Wigan have called on the Labour controlled council
to stop wasting money on teaching Councillors to tweet after a freedom of
information request to Wigan council showed £1,126.70 was spent on 'media
training' for Councillors in how to use Facebook and Twitter.
Lord Smith of Leigh asked Wiganers in January to make
sacrifices and contribute with their time free of charge to support his cuts,
but here we see yet more money wasted by Labour Councillors.
Independent Cllr Gareth Fairhurst offered to provide free internet training to
Councillors last year. Wigan and Leigh Housing trust provide very good online
training free of charge. All the
Councillors had to do was to make a phone call or send an e-mail, we can only
assume that they aren’t capable of either and think this form of training is
beneath them and they had to bring in a paid media consultant.
What’s disappointing is hardly any of the Labour councillors
are using the training on Twitter or putting any information on it of use. You
have Lord Smith of Leigh making wise cracks about the sexual misconduct
allegations in the Liberal party, which we don’t think is funny for the women
concerned and you have Cllr Susan Loundon making flippant comments about Alzheimer’s
sufferers.

Wigan Labour party mismanagement pays Council staff £192 per mile car travel
The recent report in the Wigan Evening Post on Saturday 15th February 2014 has left many
residents flabbergasted by the mismanagement on Wigan Council by the ruling
Labour party.
According to figures 1,000 staff claim a car allowance of
£960 per year. Yet 15% or 150 staff have done no official travel in the past
year. That means staff claimed £144,000 for a car allowance that they don’t
use.
10% of staff or 100 are reported to have claimed between 5
to 200 miles in the year. That equates to £4.80 to £192 per mile for each of
those employees claiming a total of £96,000.
The new offer by the ruling Labour party, rejected by unions is 52p which is a 16% higher rate than the tax rate allowed by the inland revenue.

Wigan Labour MP says no to Zero hours contracts (unless you work for Labour run Wigan Council)
September 2013, Lisa Nandy Wigan Labour MP:
'That this House expresses grave concern over the rise in
the number of UK workers employed on zero-hours contracts and the growth of
casualisation across the labour market; notes the serious and detrimental
impact of zero hours contracts on many people who lack the ability to plan
their lives or budget effectively'
In October 2013 Mrs Linda Riordan, Halifax Labour party MP said in Parliament ‘Mr.
Speaker, It is clear that the increasing number of zero-hours contracts is one
of the last taboos of employment policy. The firms involved have no need to use
those contracts: they know exactly how many employees they need each week.
Moreover, zero-hours contracts are immoral, they exploit hard-working people,
and they enable the powerful to dominate the powerless.’
Fast forward to 2014...
Wigan Council clearly didn't get the memo from Labour party headquarters...
Council rocket over zero hours contracts!

Did anyone else spot the irony in the Wigan evening
post on Wednesday 29th January 2014?
Page 8 shows a Labour Councillor visiting a food bank.
Page 9 runs a story about the Labour controlled council ending its free meals policy
(during the day) for councillors. Rumours on the internet say it costs £50,000 a
year.
