UKIP Wigan accuses Wigan Labour Councillors of wasting a £1,000 on Twitter training.

UKIP in Wigan have called on the Labour controlled council to stop wasting money on teaching Councillors to tweet after a freedom of information request to Wigan council showed £1,126.70 was spent on 'media training' for Councillors in how to use Facebook and Twitter.

Lord Smith of Leigh asked Wiganers in January to make sacrifices and contribute with their time free of charge to support his cuts, but here we see yet more money wasted by Labour Councillors.
Independent Cllr Gareth Fairhurst offered to provide free internet training to Councillors last year. Wigan and Leigh Housing trust provide very good online training free of charge. All the Councillors had to do was to make a phone call or send an e-mail, we can only assume that they aren’t capable of either and think this form of training is beneath them and they had to bring in a paid media consultant.

What’s disappointing is hardly any of the Labour councillors are using the training on Twitter or putting any information on it of use. You have Lord Smith of Leigh making wise cracks about the sexual misconduct allegations in the Liberal party, which we don’t think is funny for the women concerned and you have Cllr Susan Loundon making flippant comments about Alzheimer’s sufferers.
