Wigan Labour party mismanagement pays Council staff £192 per mile car travel

The recent report in the Wigan Evening Post on Saturday 15th February 2014 has left many residents flabbergasted by the mismanagement on Wigan Council by the ruling Labour party.

According to figures 1,000 staff claim a car allowance of £960 per year. Yet 15% or 150 staff have done no official travel in the past year. That means staff claimed £144,000 for a car allowance that they don’t use.

10% of staff or 100 are reported to have claimed between 5 to 200 miles in the year. That equates to £4.80 to £192 per mile for each of those employees claiming a total of £96,000.

The new offer by the ruling Labour party, rejected by unions is 52p which is a 16% higher rate than the tax rate allowed by the inland revenue.
