September 2013, Lisa Nandy Wigan Labour MP:
'That this House expresses grave concern over the rise in
the number of UK workers employed on zero-hours contracts and the growth of
casualisation across the labour market; notes the serious and detrimental
impact of zero hours contracts on many people who lack the ability to plan
their lives or budget effectively'
In October 2013 Mrs Linda Riordan, Halifax Labour party MP said in Parliament ‘Mr.
Speaker, It is clear that the increasing number of zero-hours contracts is one
of the last taboos of employment policy. The firms involved have no need to use
those contracts: they know exactly how many employees they need each week.
Moreover, zero-hours contracts are immoral, they exploit hard-working people,
and they enable the powerful to dominate the powerless.’
Fast forward to 2014...
Wigan Council clearly didn't get the memo from Labour party headquarters...
